MERGE membership
MERGE consists of scientists at different stages of their career. On these pages we explain the different levels of membership in MERGE, present the nomination- and application forms as well as the benefits of being a member, and what is expected of you.
MERGE consists of scientists at different stages of their career and is defined by its researchers. They are research leader, researcher or post-docs who pursue research closely related to MERGE’s research strategy, and significantly contributes to the strategic development of MERGE as a research environment and in such way contributes to MERGE’s strategic aims.
A MERGE PhD-student is associated with the research groups or research environment of MERGE researcher and whose research contributes to MERGE’s strategic aims and is in line with MERGE’s strategic plans.
A MERGE friend is a research leader, researcher, post-doc, PhD-student or master student with active collaboration with MERGE researchers. This category is not restricted to MERGE partner affiliations.

MERGE membership - categories and terms
MERGE researcher
Research leader, researcher, post-doc who pursue research closely related to MERGE’s research strategy, and significantly contributes to the strategic development of MERGE as a research environment and in such way contributes to MERGE’s strategic aims.
Employed at Lund University, University of Gothenburg, Rossby Centre/SMHI, Linnaeus University, Chalmers University of Technology and Royal Institute of Technology
Nomination and application
After application (at any time), a decision is taken by the coordinator/board representative from each partner. (See application above).
Expectations
- Participates in MERGE activities (e.g. annual meeting, workshops, seminars etc).
- Contributes by reporting activities (for example publications, conference participation, outreach activities etc) in line with MERGE’s research delimitation, regardless of funder.
- Contributes to the development of MERGE by proposing research, and by engaging in communication and dissemination of MERGE-related findings.
- Highlights MERGE affiliation (and funding when applicable), for example in relevant talks and publications.
Benefits
- Invited to contribute to the development of MERGEs strategic documents.
- Invited to use MERGE support functions (for example related to outreach), given available capacity.
- Can apply for some MERGE funding (for example short projects, workshops, guest researcher) according to the terms of the specific calls.
- Invited to participate in MERGE activities.
- Should use MERGE as affiliation in applications, and presentations and acknowledge MERGE in publications. Can use MERGE as affiliation in applications and presentations and acknowledge MERGE in publications.
MERGE PhD students
PhD-student associated with the research groups or research environment of MERGE researcher and whose research contributes to MERGE’s strategic aims and is in line with MERGE’s strategic plans.
Employed at Lund University, University of Gothenburg, Rossby Centre/SMHI, Linneaus University, Chalmers University of Technology and Royal Institute of Technology. It involves more than 250 researchers, including senior scientists, young scientists and other contributing staff.

Expectations
- Participates in MERGE activities (e.g. annual meeting, workshops, seminars etcetera).
- Contributes to the development of MERGE by proposing research, and by engaging in communication and dissemination of MERGE-related findings.
- Highlights MERGE affiliation (and funding when applicable), for example in relevant talks and publications.
Benefits
- Invited to use MERGE support functions (for example related to outreach), given available capacity.
- Can apply for some MERGE funding (for example short projects, workshops) according to the terms of the specific calls.
- Invited to participate in MERGE activities.
- Can use MERGE as affiliation in applications and presentations and acknowledge MERGE in publications.

- Receives newsletter with information on relevant events, grants etc.
- Invited to participate in most MERGE activities at own cost for travel and accommodation.
